Principal Structural Engineer
Expertise: Structural Design Optimisation; Design Software Development & Training
Dr Alex Mainey has been promoted to the new role of Principal Structural Engineer.
Alex will lead the engineering team in providing the best engineering solutions to the residential builders, their merchants and their frame and truss suppliers.
Prior to starting with Wesbeam, Alex completed his PhD in structural engineering at Griffith University, with his thesis doctorate focussing on timber nail-plate connections. Alex has since gained experience in both residential and commercial timber-framed design, with particular focus on design software and design optimisation.
Alex has become a leader in the use of the MiTek Sapphire software and in the provision of solutions to builders that reduce their cost of construction.
Alex will work closely with myself and will be responsible for the training and development of the Wesbeam Design Centre’s team of Structural Engineers and Senior Estimators, as well as the training of the Wesbeam Vietnam Team at Mitek Services. Alex is fast becoming an industry leader with regards to his expertise in the MiTek Sapphire software and the benefits that intelligent design can have for Wesbeam customers and builders across Australia.
Alex also heads up the Wesbeam Technical hotline and is often the first point of call for all technical assistance for Wesbeam’s customers and sales teams.
Senior Structural Engineer

Wesbeam welcomes Terry Chan to the role of Senior Structural Engineer.
Graduating with Honors in his Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, Terry joins Wesbeam with over 9 years of engineering experience at Mitek Australia. Mitek has a long-standing professional partnership with Wesbeam and is one of the world’s leading and most innovative suppliers of software, engineered products, services and automated manufacturing equipment.
Terry brings with him a wealth of knowledge and deep understanding of construction principles and the frame and truss design processes. Terry was involved in the development of the Mitek Sapphire software, used by Wesbeam as well as dozens of frame and truss operations around the country.
As one of Wesbeam’s Senior structural engineers, Terry will work alongside the Technical Team to undertake structural analysis and design of timber-based building systems, and will provide technical support to our customers, builders and sales teams.
Senior Structural Engineer

Wesbeam welcomes Jimmy Chang to the role of Senior Structural Engineer.
Jimmy is a Structural Engineer with over 15 years of experience in the Engineered Wood Products field and is a welcome addition to Australia’s only LVL and LVL I-joist manufacturer.
Jimmy brings with him a wealth of knowledge in the design of timber structures, timber materials science, product testing and analysis, and timber software development. Jimmy’s knowledge in the design, specification, and construction of I-joist floor systems will be a huge benefit to the Wesbeam Design Centre and the offer provided to the Australian market.
