Walls

Lightweight wall frames consist of studs, top and bottom plates, lintels and noggings.

Lightweight wall frames provide external walls and partitions between rooms. They carry loads from upper levels down through the house or building.

Timber stud frame walls are simple to construct on site or they can be prefabricated.  Insulated lightweight timber frame walls are more thermally efficient than brick walls.

LVL is a particularly cost-effective solution for wall frames in lower floors of mid-rise timber buildings and for lintels in any wall frames.

Product details

  • Wall framing members are delivered in packs and carpenters cut each member to length to construct the wall frames on site. Stick-built wall frames can be easily adjusted or modified during construction.

  • Pre-nailed/prefabricated wall frames are designed using specialised software and made in a factory, delivered as a flat pack to site and assembled. Cladding and insulation are delivered separately and installed on site. Most prefabricated wall frames are light enough to be erected without a crane.

Prefabricated wall frames could be modified during construction if required but are manufactured to tight tolerances so don’t often need to be adjusted. They are a faster method of construction than stick-built wall frames.

  • Wall frames can be designed and prefabricated with insulation, windows, plasterboard, bracing, and in some cases, external cladding already attached to the frame. They are craned into place and connected by carpenters.

Panelised timber wall frames are a very fast and efficient method of construction; however, they are more difficult to modify on site than prefabricated or stick-built wall frames.
